From: Mary Ann Wheeler Date: Sat, 18 Jan 1997 18:43:02 -0500 Subject: PFAFF: Ann Green's Eyelet Instructions As posted by Ann Greene: To All who requested instructions for the eyelet plate flowers. These can be made with the 1473-75 and the 7550-70. I will follow in a week or so of some other technique or foot if you all find it worthwhile. I started a 1473-75 address list and there were far too many to answer privately, so I will post on the list periodically. I am sure there are many others on this list who can add to or improve my techniques but for beginners or someone without dealers & teachers nearby at least it will be a start. Feel free to ask me any ?? or ask about any problems. Eyelet Flowers Tightly woven fabric Woven fusible interfacing Decorative threads Eyelet Plate Hoop #80 Embroidery or Metafil Needle Sew Bob or basting thread Top Tension #3 Directions are written for the 1473-1475 Directions for the 7550-7570 are in () Interface piece to be decorated. If your fabric is very firm and a very tight weave don't bother to interface. I have had better with the woven type interfaceing. It prevents the hole from becoming larger as you work.Mark center of flowers with a dot, leaving room for outer petals. Remove ankle raise dual feed foot and apply eyelet plate in this manner. Three little prongs on the back fit into the back area of the feed dogs. Top pivot circle goes on the left of the needle with the small spike underneath foot into the hole in front of the throat plate. Hold it with the front part angled up and back prongs down to start then just snap into place. There is another prong on the front which fits over the edge of the throat plate. Drop feed dogs. Presser foot in darning position (half-way down). VERY IMPORTANT! Sew OUTER petals first, regardless of what the manual says. Punch a small hole in flower center using closed tip of scissors and twisting back and forth.. Place hole over eyelet stud. It should be a SNUG fit, not loose. Bring bobbin thread up and sew outer stitch, while slowly pivoting hoop clockwise in an even motion. Use tie off at the end of stitch. Switch to zig zag stitch and repeat for eyelet. Don't make too thick! You can go around 2 times to fill in any areas missed. Remember, you are in control of how many stitches are placed where. Leave plenty of room for leaves and stems and other flowers. Using green rayon thread, sew stems and leaves with the stitch of your choice. #6 or #7 (#20 or #21)-L .40 W 3.0 good for stems. Intertwine #48 (#157), L 7 W 4, chicken feet, to look like vines. Use leaves of your choice adjusting length and width for your size. Flower stitches: #1475 #7550 Crystal dandelions #143 W 7 #70 Geraniums-#119 #164 ASBM Cornflowers-#16 #4 ASBM Scallop-#61 #52 Star-#13 A #3 Eyelet-#11 #32 Sunflower 7550 only. #5 mirror black, #13 yellow wide. Can use twin needles. Yellow in left neelde and dark in right. #1.6 or 2.0 needle and twin needle button engaged. Please practive first and after just a few flowers you will get the hang of it. I tried duplicating this with the Viking and could not do it to my satisfaction. This prompted a letter to Sue Hauseman to work on it for Viking. I am pretty sure of the st. # etc. but please check each out first to make sure. I have been know to make a mistake, as I haven't a 1475 to check on exactly what I want any more. Please E-mail me and let me know how you made out. Thanks goes to Sue Felton for the original instructions and incentives to try others.
