Crate Rest while recuperating from
surgery or
-
medical conservative treatment for
Disc Disease (IVDD)
-
- It is imperative that you give time for healing
whether it's after surgery or during conservative medical treatment.
Serious tissue damage has occurred. It simply takes time for healing
to complete.

-
- Conservative treatment requires
eight (8) weeks of 100% STRICT crate rest 24/7 only out at potty
times. Meds prescribed will bring down inflammation and others
will mask the pain until that happens. There are no medicines that
can heal a disc. That is a matter of time and restricted movement
of 8 weeks of crate rest. Too much movement before disc has
completely healed over, can cause relapses from pain to more
serious of paralyzed legs. Detailed information on the "how's
and why's" of conservative treatment.
- Surgical cases usually
require 6 weeks of crate rest with supervised and controlled
exercise possibly vet prescribed PT begining the day after surgery
When the dog is not under your eye-ball to eye-ball supervision
and controlled by leash and harness, the safest place to
recuperate is in the crate. More
